How does All Ears measure sentiment?

Updated over a week ago

All Ears automatically classifies each mention as Positive, Negative, or Neutral based on the language surrounding your keyword. You can review and update the sentiment at any time.

What is sentiment?

Sentiment describes the overall tone of a mention.

Each mention is labeled as Positive, Negative, or Neutral to help you quickly understand how your brand, keywords, or topics are being discussed.

How is sentiment determined?

Sentiment is calculated automatically using machine learning.

The system analyzes the language surrounding your keyword and assigns a classification based on context:

  • Mentions with clearly positive language are labeled Positive

  • Mentions with clearly negative language are labeled Negative

  • Mentions without a strong positive or negative tone are labeled Neutral

Sentiment reflects the tone of the surrounding language. As with any automated analysis, complex context - such as irony, quotes, or nuanced phrasing - may occasionally require manual review.

Why sentiment matters

Sentiment helps you:

  • Detect shifts in tone over time

  • Identify potential risks early

  • Highlight positive coverage

  • Understand overall perception at a glance

When combined with reach and mention volume, sentiment provides a clearer view of impact.

Can I change the sentiment?

Yes. While sentiment is assigned automatically, language can sometimes be nuanced. If a mention has been labeled incorrectly, you can update it directly.

Click the sentiment label next to the mention and select the correct classification.

Your changes are applied immediately and reflected in Analytics and reports.
